The ArNoNa CADViewer
is a Java based viewer for AutoCAD Drawing Web Format (DWF) and SVF. Unlike
a plug-in the CADViewer is installed on the Web server and enables anyone
(Windows/ Mac/ Unix etc) to
view CAD drawings
on the UPUAUT PROJECT web site without installing anything.

Description
The DWF format allows
users of AutoCAD (R) to generate small vector based drawings. These drawings
are designed to work well over the internet. The format uses data compression
to create small files yet uses vectors so the precision of the drawing
is not lost. Vectors allow for functions like zoom which are impossible
with non vector based formats (gif or jpeg images for example).
The DWF format requires
a viewer to actually render the drawing and to provide functions like zoom
and pan.
Until the CADViewerTM
was created, there was no viewer which answered the above issues. Since
the CADViewerTM is written using Java, it will run on any Java enabled
platform using standard browsers (Netscape 3.0 or Internet Explorer 3.0
or above).
Most users will
not need to upgrade their browser nor install any software on their machine.
The viewer has been used on multiple platforms including SunOS, Solaris,
Digital Unix, OS/2, Mac, Linux, Windows 95/NT, JavaStation, Network Computers
etc.
Java?
1.
Java is well suited
for the task of viewing DWF drawings.
2.
Java is secure. Users
can download the applet with full knowledge that the applet can't harm their
own machine in any way.
3.
Java executes automatically.
There is absolutely no installation required when running Java. The applet
is downloaded much like an image would be downloaded.
